Your job is  important as families tend to take more than they should being that they are living in a mindset of scarcity.

  • The Goal | Ensure a 20-item limit and no duplicates (e.g., only 1 shampoo, one detergent).

  • The Shopping Process |

    • Carry the guest’s bag and a clipboard & log items.

    • Scribble every item they take on your paper.

    • Escort them back to the Welcome Table.

    • Hand in the item list to the Greeters for a thumbs up.

    • Drop the number square in the muslin bag and ask the Greeters who gets the lanyard next.

  • Concierge (2)

    • Take an iPad and a clipboard with the DHS document and three documents explaining the green card process. Your job is to walk around and update our Google Sheet on our clients info and inform them of the policy changes below while pointing to the memorandum from the Department of Homeland Security. You are essentially Green Card Triage. You need to be sensitive and ensure privacy when you ask them their green card status so Neighborly can begin helping them through the process immediately. “If you don't have your green card yet, we have instructions to help you with the process. Do you have it or have you applied?” Adjust Google Sheet on iPad to reflect their status. If they haven’t applied, ask them to take a photo of the instructions in their language on the clipboard, mark them as a “No” in the Google Sheet, and let them know we will follow up with them:

      • The One-Year Rule is Mandatory: Refugees who have been in the U.S. for one year MUST apply for a green card (Form I-485).

      • Enforcement Risk: If a refugee reaches the one-year mark and has not applied, ICE now has the authority to arrest them and detain them indefinitely.

      • Carrying Your Card: By law (INA § 264(e)), anyone 18 or older must carry their "evidence of registration" at all times. Once you have a green card, it must always be with you. Until then, you should carry your I-94 (arrival record) or your work permit (EAD).

  • Crossing Guard (2) (Switch at 10:45)

    • Please set out 6 traffic cones in their designated area, be sure to wear the traffic vest and straw hat if you want shade. Take a chair from wherever and put it in the center of the roundabout. Cars might ask you what’s going on so take some booklets to share what’s happening. After the event ends at 11:30, please take in the chair, and collect traffic cones to put back in the donation shed.

  • Conversation Partner Area 1 (2) (Feel free to shuffle around)

  • Conversation Partner Area 2 (2)

  • Conversation Partner Area 3 (2)

    • You need to be the socially proactive crew willing to fumble your way through conversation with the goal of truly listening to our guests. Google Translate or Microsoft Translate will be your best friend. Be thoughtful about how you engage with sensitive topics like war and terrorism as our clients have all suffered severely and that is why they are here in the United States. Because there isn’t anything to set up, please refer to the Jubilee Map on your phones and set out tables and pull donations out of the shed and set neatly on tables. After the event, please ensure that your area is cleaned of leftover trash or food. If inside, please sweep the floors. If outside in the carport, please take out the trash bag to the trash can to the street. Then take up all the leftover donations that aren’t cleaning supplies, and put them into volunteer vehicles. All clean supplies or hygiene products go back into the donation shed.

  • Crafters (2)

    • Put a plastic tablecloth over the table on the pool deck, set out, and prepare crafts. The crafts are… Once done, help the other teams set out donations on tables. After the event at 11:30, please remove all traces of the craft area from the back deck. Fold chairs and set in the corner of the pool deck under the shade canopy. Fold table and place next to storage shed on pool deck. Pick up trash in your area, throw away trash in trash cans on the street.

  • Snacketeers (2)

    • Your job will be to go around and offer to serve food & drinks though anyone is welcome to serve themselves inside. Keep food on the table in the dining room, and any drinks on the kitchen counter. You’ll primarily be serving coffee or water for drinks. Prepare for the event by organizing the food and drink area. After the event, please clean these two spaces and take the trash bag out to trash cans on the street.

  • Playground Pals (2)

    • You’re here to play! Mostly with the younger kids that enjoy our backyard where we have a slide, climbing wall, balance beams, tree house, trampoline, and swing. The kids also enjoy feeding weeds to the chickens. To prepare, you will need to grab the pooper scoopers in the backyard and make sure the ground is clear of our dogs’ smelly little surprises. Once done, help the Conversation Partners set out donations on tables. After the event, please pick up trash in your area and leftover food and throw in trash cans on the street. Our dog will eat whatever is left on the ground.

  • Soccer Captains (2)

    • Grab the two white folding benches on the back deck by the pool and bring them down to the field. Grab the pooper scooper and clear the field of dog poop. • Lifeguard (2) (April - October)

    • Keep kids alive.

  • Chief Celebration Officer (1)

    • Your job is mostly to be a party animal during the event but to prepare for the event by setting up the bubble maker, keeping it supplied with fluids throughout, setting up the speaker (found in the closet right of our fireplace inside). We will also be giving you our camera to take photos during the event so having some familiarity with a camera would be good. After the event, put the speaker back in the closet to the right of our fireplace indoors, the bubble maker and fluid back in donation shed out front, and the camera can be returned to Neighborly staff.
