Homeless folks have to choose between meals and work.

Most shelters serve breakfast too late for those with jobs at day-labor pools. Once a week, we fill this gap with a dignified meal.

WAKEY, WAKEY

Breakfast Brigade assemble!

Every week, in solidarity, we get up earlier than the day-laborers to make breakfast and center ourselves in prayer as we prepare our hearts to serve. We head over to the local labor pool and lay down a tablecloth, put out freshly picked flowers from a friend’s garden, share boiled eggs from our 40+ chickens, offer pastries donated from Panera and start pouring cups of coffee and orange juice.

Hard to “pull yourself up by the bootstraps” without boots.

Homeless folks are missing out on jobs because they can’t afford to buy a pair of the required steel toe work boots. Fun Fact: Did you know that this issue is what led us to start Neighborly back in ‘09?
